Alligator Alley Cloud Alligator

I met
my first

wild alligator yesterday.

She was panhandling

at a rest stop

along Florida's infamous

Alligator Alley.

She was such a willing and

lovely subject that I felt bad

not sharing my lunch with her.

She was clearly disappointed

but feeding wildlife snacks

isn't good for them or us

so I managed to resist

her mesmerizing charm.
She had incredible hands.
Larger photos here.

I'm not sure I like the way she's looking at the camera. There's something quite a bit unsettling about feeling like prey.

Seems no one told her that we humans fancy ourselves the top of the food chain.

I love how you solved the problem of taking a lot of pictures.

I love most of the pictures.

I'm not in your blog list.

Someone ate your infamous link.

Humans are nowhere near the top of the food chain when in water. It is an unnatural and dangerous place for us to be. Is this why it creeps me out to be on large bodies of water?

In a past life I was dragged under by a socially insensitive carnivore.

Alley Cloud possesses the infinite patience of inevitable Nature.

Don, thanks. 'ppreciate it.

You are now. Sorry for the oversight.

Thanks again. Fixed it.

The way I see it, the food "chain" is really a circle. We are in it. Nobody wins. The thought of being on a large body of water creeps me out too.

Indeed.

Hmmm interesting I feel completely at home on large bodies of water maybe because I grew up on an island?

Great photos, while I was looking at them thought the theme song to Jaws went through my head. The one that goes dun, nun, dun, nun, faster and faster so I'm glad you're still around to share them with us as I'm sure she was thinking about just how tasty you would be.

Travel safe mi amiga it's not just the humans that will get you.....

much love, actual love in this case:)

Hola, mi amiga! Yes, probably growing up on an island did have something to do with it but also you are a very adventuresome soul who feels at home in a variety of situations. In any case, I think you would LOVE Florida.

In defense of the alligator, the birds at the rest stop were far more aggressive. I left my sandwich unattended on the table for a second and they instantly jumped it and started hauling it off.

what a lovely post. be careful. I won't put my toe in the ocean and am nervous in lakes. Rivers though... ah, rivers....
