I, for one, don't want the police state this "war" has created. The United States has less than 5 % of the world's population but has almost 25% of the world's prisoners and keeps them incarcerated longer than than other nations.

I looked around and got some confusing statistics from different sources, but it tends to look like a pretty big, lopsided percentage of arrests and incarcerations are for marijuana offenses. Pretty crazy, for something that makes you drive slower.
It's just crazy to have so many people in prison when they could be working and paying taxes, but instead a smaller and smaller group of working people are paying more and more to support a larger prison pop (and other nonworking people). The whole fucking country is becoming a pyramid scheme.
It's crazy alright. And good point about the diminished tax base. Add to that the stress on families, welfare or even worse, no support. Lack of guidance in the home...on and on. For what? Smoking pot? Taking pills? Being an addict? Legalize, tax, regulate. Prohibition simply makes crime pay and pay BIG.
