Don. Thank you for the comment. Yes, I always fed them roasted, unsalted peanuts but, after reading your comment, I researched the subject further. I was amazed to find out that, much as they love them, peanuts are far from the best food for squirrels. (salted peanuts are really bad for birds too)
First off, yes! You're so right about raw peanuts. They can be especially dangerous as they can harbor toxic mold. Squirrels fare best on a balanced mixture of nuts, seeds, corn, fruit, leaves, fungi and bark. Much as they love peanuts, roasted, unsalted peanuts are merely a treat. Thanks again.

Squirrels will starve to death on a diet of raw peanuts, so make sure them legumes are roasted!
