URGENT - pet food recall

The FDA has just issued a recall of several brands of contaminated pet food that is known to cause kidney failure and sometimes the death of dogs and cats who have eaten it. For product information, check this list. According to the FDA, if your pet has "consumed the suspect feed and show signs of kidney failure (such as loss of appetite, lethargy and vomiting) consult with the veterinarian immediately." Good luck.

Ps. You should probably hang on to all the packages you have (including any empty ones) and the vet bills to see what you can do after/if they figure out what's going on.

I read the release, after looking at the list, and found this sentence: "The recall is limited to 'cuts and gravy' style pet food in cans and pouches..." which narrows things down considerably--and is not the dry food. Hopefully that takes a lot of us out of the woods.

Yes, it could have been worse. It's sad that animals getting sick, even dying after eating the tainted food. So unnecessary. I hope your cats are okay.

We use dry Iams in the bag--not on the list. As much as poor Pitty Pat eats, she would be the most at risk, of the three cats.

I'm glad Pitty Pat and the others are safe but don't buy Iams products anyway. People are boycotting them because their labs routinely abuse dogs and cats. See for yourself: Iams Cruelty. The company refuses to correct the situation so I wouldn't buy a crumb from them.

There are plenty of cruelty-free companies, many of whom will ship right to your door. If you want to be extra groovy, chose a veggie and organic pet food from the list such as:

Holistic Blend
The Pet Food Shop
Natural Balance Inc.

I freaked out when I saw Eukanaba on one of the lists, but it's not the dry, so we're okay. I feel so bad for those pets and peeps.

And of course Pitty Pat wouldn't have it any other way.
