"...searchin' in the sun for another overload..."
When I was younger, living in Berkeley crash houses and more or less on the street, strung out on drugs, and in a terrible terrible hurry to be
somewhere else the line,
"and if it snows that stretch down south won't ever stand the strain" was always a comfort. It's still a good song.

I haven't heard that song in so long. Thanks. I don't remember what was happening at that time for me, but that's nothing new.
The good old days.
It sounds so much better now than it did back then when I was of the delusion anything mid-west was delusional. Mostly me I beleive, with a little help from my friends.
hey. coffee sunday 10 on my corner if you get this. I'll be waitin'...
You're on. 10. Sunday. See you then.
I could hardly imagine someone more square at the time, but he's really ok, there are some great songs, and he's aging great. Here's a more recent vid with some disposable but competent pop group (sorry STP fans...maybe I'll come around in 40 years, heh).

Your description of yourself sounds like me. And yeah, I've always liked the anchoring effect of this song. And yeah, he seemed really 'square' at the time, but then again... Galveston surprised me by turning out to be an anti-war song, or at least one that wishes it were somewhere else than Vietnam. Interesting.
who indeed: Yes, he was kind of square but he got it right. These songs have layers of meaning and feeling and, in the end, compassion trumps cool.
