Chalkboard

This evening M. Lee mentioned that I am like a person writing on a chalkboard with one hand while erasing with the other. How true.

I thought I was more like the person running across the bridge with the boards laying across the two parallel ropes (a la Wile E. Coyote) and the boards are falling off right behind me as I run.
But I can see the chalk/eraser thing.

Ha! I can't believe I got that word verification. I was just guessing. Now, to get this one . . .

Yeah. Wile E. Coyote's a good one. Definitely the boards are falling as I go. What got me about the chalk/eraser image is that a few years ago I wrote a piece titled "This Sentence Will Not Be Erased" and in the process ended up editing most of it back to oblivion. I was going to write about that in the post but it made me tired just thinking about it.

PS. What was the word you had to verify?

PS. What was the word you had to verify?

It was one of those with the distorted "n," or "h," but you couldn't tell which, and it also had the "a," . . . or "d" . . . and also the chemical symbol for Boron.

This has all made me think of the process the brain goes through to identify words and numbers, the way we instantly toss out improbably choices where a computer would have to run algorithms for 17 years.

Also, Google's word verifications tell me apparently we don't really know that much about that process, else these things would be very natural and easy to decipher, like face recognition.

Reid was doing this for awhile on his actual chalkboard so instead I got him to draw on the windows with crayons and then I would clean them after a few days. It changed his approach to colouring he adds to the picture now instead of erasing and redoing. Maybe you need to write on paper for awhile it's not as easy to erase pen as it is to backspace on the computer.

Six years later.

Kimberlee, how did I miss your comment? Perhaps I never saw it or did I write a reply then follow it with erase? The answer is lost in time but not the wisdom of your words. Thank you. I hope all's well with you and your family. I am always amazed when I see how big they are getting. Cheers.
